Cooking oil is a type of fat that exists as a liquid at room temperature, like vegetable oils used in cooking. Oil is produced from a variety of plant and fish sources. Cooking oils are NOT a food group, but cooking oils provide many essential nutrients. Some common cooking oils include: canola oil, corn oil, olive oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil. Some of the oils used are flavoring agents such as walnut oil and sesame oil. Some foods are high in oil, such as nuts, olives, some fish, and avocados.
